USSR, 1982. Marina, the daughter of businessman Nikolai, falls in love with Boris, a man her family disapproves of, and gives birth to a child with health problems. When Nikolai learns that his granddaughter has a congenital heart defect, he decides to send her to an orphanage and tells everyone that the baby didn’t survive. Doctor Voskresensky, a colleague of Boris's father, forms a bond with the little girl and takes on the responsibility of saving her. Marina is devastated by the loss, while Boris is drafted into the army. Ahead of all the characters lie new dramatic events and intertwined fates.
